Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts
Students on the student health plan enjoy health care coverage from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBS). With its national strength and depth of health care experience, BCBS provides comprehensive benefits at reasonable costs through leading hospitals, physicians, and other providers across the country. This means that students are covered when they are on their campus as well as when they are at home. With coverage provided through the BCBS Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), NUSHP members have the freedom to access the care they need from the providers they choose, along with the ability to further control costs and maximize benefits when they select in-network providers.
University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS)
University Health and Counseling Services is Northeastern’s on-campus resource, dedicated to helping our students stay physically and mentally healthy and providing high quality care when they are ill or injured. Our state-of-the-art facility staffed by an expert medical and behavioral health services team is your first stop for care. To learn more about them, check out their website.
All undergraduate students have access to the University Health and Counseling Services. Graduate and CPS students enrolled in NUSHP will also automatically be assessed the Health and Counseling Fee and will have full access to the University Health and Counseling Services. Graduate and CPS students who choose to waive NUSHP but still would like access to UHCS can submit a UHCS Access Request form (PDF) and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
NUSHP has negotiated a reduced co-payment schedule for medical services, preventive dental care services, and vision exams. There is a 50 percent reduction in the required copayments for prescription drug copayments for NUSHP members who are established patients for Fenway Health. NUSHP members have access to these reduced prescription drug copayments if they first have a medical office visit, behavioral health visit, receive vision or dental care services, or receive a complementary care service (e.g., massage, chiropractic, or acupuncture).
